Cyrus Sink: Classical Guitar

Musician Cyrus Sink has heard the sounds of mysterious and entrancing classical music emanating from his father's guitar since early childhood. In his late 20s after acquiring a solid understanding of the mechanics of jazz, rock, and blues guitar styles, as well as a degree from Berklee College of Music in Bass Performance (1994). Following a two-month tour playing jazz bass in Andalucia, Spain, Cyrus finally summoned the courage to tackle his first piece, a cornerstone of the classical guitar repertoire, Moreno-Torroba's suite composed for Andre Segovia, "Castles of Spain". It was a long and difficult beginning, and though approached primarily as a musical hobby, Cyrus' skills began to grow and he added additional well-known pieces to his repertoire.

This CD was recorded live, and though not without technical and sonic imperfections, it represents some of Cyrus' favorite pieces, all by noted Spanish and South American composers, including Jorge Morell, Moreno-Torroba, Andres Segovia, Isaac Albeniz, and Juaquin Turina. A labor of love and respect, the music is performed with joy and depth of feeling.
